The garden is winding down for the summer, but it’s not finished yet. And now, I’m dealing with the consequences of the choices I made in the spring.
Part of my strategy for not planting as many vegetables was to plant more flowers. They help control weeds and gave me something to tend to on days when I had time. And I can make a strong case for the merit of flowers just because.
Now that they’re reaching the end, I’m collecting the flowers’ seeds. I can already imagine how many volunteer zinnias and marigolds I’m going to have, and I’m not mad about it, but collecting the seeds will cut down on those numbers and allow me to plant them strategically next year. Plus, I have something special planned for the zinnia seeds. More on that later.
I also have beds where I planted flowers that didn’t come up, or planted nothing after the spring greens and now I have a mess. Weeds are dropping their seeds, so I’ll deal with their offspring for seasons to come. It’s a haven for rabbits and snakes. Sigh.
My next video will be a “Visit to my Garden Mess.” Maybe I’ll manage a before and after once I get it cleaned out.
In the meantime, here’s a little garden visit.

Assuming you won’t be mean.
