More time in the garden has meant more reflections on seasons and the passage of time.
The latest musing comes from the short story collection, Table for Two, by Amor Towles. In the opening story, “The Line,” one character is motivated by the thought: The time has come once and for all . . . while another character is motivated by: The time has come once again . . .
The garden is full of “once agains.” I find comfort in the cyclical nature of the seasons and the predictability of each day’s work. I pull weeds, prune tomatoes, harvest what’s ready to eat, and know I’ll do the same thing the next day. I’ve found that I’m energized by the liturgical and the quotidian.
