I’m interrupting regular programming to share some bits of news. You can even think of it as a newsletter if you’d like.
Hard News
First, if you’ve read my bio, you know I’m from West Texas. That is to say, I’m from people who pray for rain, restrict water use, and are acquainted with the grit of dust in our teeth. Yet, unbelievably, I’ve spent the past few days cleaning and packing my childhood home after it flooded on July 4th. Photographs, sheetrock, heirlooms, and flooring are layered like sediment in a roll-away dumpster. My parents are still standing, holding gratitude and loss side by side. We are acutely aware of the devastation our neighbors are experiencing. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about all of this, but not today.
Happier News
Second, my novel, So Long As It’s Wonderful has sold more copies in the last two months than it had in its sixteen-month lifetime. I can’t say for sure why, maybe I suppose I was blessed by the Amazon algorithm, but I’m very grateful. You can read (or listen) to the first chapter here if you’d like. If you want the whole book, it’s on sale right now on Amazon or you can buy from any online bookseller or ask your local bookstore to order a copy for you.

I launched a new Substack!
Don’t worry, nothing is changing here. I just had an idea for something new and went with it.
In November 2021, I published This Year, Lord: Teachers’ Prayers of Blessing, Liturgy, and Lament. Now I’m offering the prayers as a Substack subscription, so teachers can get seasonal and everyday prayers delivered to their inbox every Monday.
In addition to the weekly prayers, I hope the Substack version of This Year, Lord will become a community where teachers of faith support each other and point to Christ in all things. I’d love for you to check it out and share it with any teachers you know.
That’s it for now. If you’ve read this whole post, you’ve probably found typos. Apologies to the paid subsribers for the lack of audio this week. I’ll be back to the posts you’re used to next week. Here’s hoping the garden hasn’t been stripped by beetles by the time I return home to Tennessee after being home in Texas.
Wishing you well,
Sheila
